What Not To Do When Caring For Your Eyes

Posted on

Eye care is very important. This organ of your body is responsible for one of your five senses, and without it, you'd be missing out on a lot of things in your everyday life. If you aren't caring for your eyes properly, you can quickly have deteriorated vision. Caring for your eyes needs to be done properly, but there are probably a lot of things you do in your day to day life that could be hindering your eye health. Read on for a few of the things you may be doing that could be hindering the care of your eyes.

Touching Or Rubbing Your Eyes

If you are constantly touching or rubbing your eyes a lot, it may be causing your eyes to get infected. You may also be causing bacteria to spread to your eyes, which can lead to styes or other eye issues. Don't touch or rub your eyes, especially if you haven't washed your hands. Once your hands have been washed, you can touch your eyes, but try to avoid doing this as much as possible, as you could still be spreading bacteria to your eyes.

Going Without Contacts Or Eyeglasses

If you try going without wearing your contact lenses or your eyeglasses, you could be causing your eyes to strain in an effort to see, which can worsen your vision. If you have corrective lenses, you should be wearing them in order to see properly. Don't forgo wearing one or the other. You need to wear them as required to see properly. If you're trying to give your eyes a break from both, you can do so, but you need to be sure you aren't squinting or straining to see.

Not Keeping Up With Your Prescription

If you haven't been to the optometrist in a while, you're doing your eyes a great disservice. Your eyes could be suffering from wearing an old prescription that doesn't meet your needs. You're most likely straining to see, which can cause further stress on your eyes and will worsen your vision. If you haven't been to the optometrist in a while, you need to make an appointment and get your prescription updated, and update your lenses as well.

If you aren't caring for your eyes the right way, your vision will suffer. Talk to your optometrist about other care tips for your eyes and your vision. Eye care can be simple when you follow these tips.
